ATV’s & White Water Rafting, Chiang Mai

ATV action

Ever since Phil and I rode Quad Bikes (or ATVs) in Corfu, I’ve thought they are pretty much the best vehicle ever. They are incredibly fun to drive and can take you random places you wouldn’t normally get to. I’ve also wanted to do white water rafting for a while, so a trip that involves both in one day? Definition of awesome!

The bikes were 250CC semi-manual, really good bikes. Although as always they had their quirks; Tommy’s had a big battery on the front keeping it alive Frankenstien style, Rob’s kept veering to right (so he found out) and my engine was cutting out and hard to get started again. We drove on a mix of road and dirt tracks through forest, but we really wanted the guide to open up the taps and give us room to hit the throttle a bit more! Well, if I can’t go fast ill go sideways haha! They are so easy to slide, and with this power easy to hold it.

At one point we turned around and rob was gone, that veering-to-the-right thing went full on and he crashed it into the side of the hill! He dove off and the bike went up the hill and rolled onto its side! He was all good though, and more importantly so was the bike.

Then mine backfired and died completely. Turned out they hadn’t topped up the fuel in it and that’s what had been causing it to stall. So they siphoned some from theirs and put it into mine, then no more worries.

The final stop was on the river, where we had lunch, a quick lesson on rafting and then straight into the water! Unfortunately because the weather was still so dry the rapids were quite small, only two of them were grade 3-5, a few 2s and the rest just the flowing river. They were fun though! The only time we fell in was when he tricked us, “RIGHT SIDE RIGHT SIDE!” So he could flip the boat haha. Then again playing helicopter on the rear of the boat. Refreshing at least!

Yep, ATVs and white water rafting in one day. Pretty damn cool :)
