UPP had it’s yearly work/client party this week! They have staff only parties throughout the year, but this one shows off for the clients – meaning they go all out. We left for a couple hours to come back for the main party and went bowling at a pub nearby. (Bowling here is associated with drinking, and are actually inside pubs! Only small, 4 lanes or so, but many people using them).

But Im not sure why we left, considering there were girls on motorbikes manning the door (sorry no photos! Only took these 2 later on), in full motorbike gear, and cocktails being served inside, multiple bar areas, and a DJ. When we came back there was a police van in our street – I joked to myself about cops raiding the party.. There they were at the front door. Apparently they make frequent appearances at the parties. Not really hassling though just checking in and monitoring noise.

As usual, alcohol enhanced foreign language abilities (theirs, not mine) and I talked to lots of staff I hadn’t before. The party was pretty good, but at the end I think the bar staff got a bit happy with the mixing, and just started making rocket fuel! The last drink I had was terrible, and sent me home pretty fast. Woke up at 11am.. then 1am.. no work today.. Went in on Saturday and I wasn’t the only one. About 5 people showed up at 9 on Friday (ones who weren’t at the party?!) and most didn’t stay the full day haha.

Why oh why do they do it on a school night? :)

Hanami 2007 - Anpan Man!

The cherry blossoms were in bloom even earlier this year, with the blame squarly on Global warming screwing things up. But as usual everything came and went within a 2 week period! The peak of Sakura sees Yoyogi Park filling with people for Hanami (aka “gettin’ smashed under the trees”).

RTW: p61a – Corfu = Paradise & The Pink Palace Hotel

The Pink Palace Hotel, Corfu. It’s a legend amongst backpackers who have escaped to tell the tale. I say escape, because once you get there you may never want to leave, note the first of the 10 Lies listed below. This hostel/hotel is run by “Dr. George”, split over a few buildings in the middle of paradise next to the beach on Corfu. In peak season, they hold over 600 people! Breaking out tents, fold outs, whatever they can and never turn someone away. We were past peak season, but it still had around 60 odd people.
They run events every night, like TOGA night: wear toga’s, get a plate smashed on your head, and party down with cocktails and ouzo. It is simply a party in paradise and everyone is in the mood to boogie.

10 Biggest lies at the Pink Palace:

* I’m only staying one night.
* I know how to ride a four wheeler.
* I’m never drinking ouzo again.
* I’m getting up early tomorrow.
* Someone else is in my bed; can I sleep with you tonight?
* I have a boyfriend back home.
* What, do you think I do this with every girl? You’re special to me.
* I just want to kiss you. You can keep your clothes on.
* Of course I remember your name.
* No, really I’m leaving tomorrow.

RTW: p38 – LDW Final Drink up

On my 2nd last night in Tokyo I met up with the crew from LDW again (apart from those who were still too busy working!) for drinks and dinner at the local Izakaya.
I also met one of Koichi’s friends, a German guy was the lead animator on Tarzan (voted by many as the best animation from Disney) and had been working at Lucas Arts.

After the last train had gone and many Lemon Sours, they planned to go and stay at work (as norm) and be ready for Friday! I instead took a cab to a small party at Bao Qin’s place and my planned 9am wake up wasn’t going to happen.
But there was lots to do, like finish (start) packing. And setting up for a half-planned Sayonara Party in our house at Nakano Sakaue!
