Chelsea V Everton

In a prequel of sorts to the FA Cup final, we saw Chelsea play Everton in a Premier League Match at Stamford Bridge Stadium (Chelsea’s Homeground next to Fullham Broadway).

The crowd at an English game is much tamer now as security and officials have cracked down hard in recent years. You can’t even take a beer back to your seat! But still fun.

Although Chelsea had numerous attempts at Goal, they couldn’t quite finish it off and the closest chance hit the top bar, resulting in a relatively uneventful 0-0 draw.

Barcelona

We stayed at one of the Sant Jordi Hostels in Barcelona, and its pretty damn cool. Its quite cheap, enough space, free lockers and internet etc, and good lounge. Most of the staff are Brazilian and they organise parties almost every night of the week along with people from the other Sant Jordi Hostels!
Needless to say Joe and I joined them. Continue Reading…

Kawasaki ‘Frontale’ Vs Chiba

Our mate Takeshi had tickets to a J-League game and invited us. We live in Kawasaki but he is originaly from Chiba!

When we first arrived and tried one of the gates, I couldn’t believe the line. Honestly it was the longest que I have ever seen, and by the time I found the end I was 10min from the stadium!! Luckily we realised our tickets also worked on another gate which was completely free :) The crowd was quite pumped, home side fans even had  full drum kit, and the teams were close in the ranks. Fun match but as with Aus all they Star-Players are over in Euro-Land.

End result 1-1, but I’m pretty sure I was safe from any potential Riots (like I saw in Rio!) anyways.

Australia’s First Soccer World Cup in 36years, and I happened to be in Germany for it :) This is a video from my time there, much of it spent watching the games and drinking Weisbeer with Tim and Gabby! Unfortunately the Ref’s were constantly against us as we had some of the worst decisions and lop-sided calls made in the entire competition, notably ital’ys DIVE obtaining a free kick to steal the match, and the biggest foul difference ever against brazil. Still, Australia made the 2nd round and proved many doubters wrong. GO AUSTRALIA!

At the airport I toyed with one of the dodgy Taxi drivers you see in every big city. He tried to get me to use his “taxi”, so I said I had no cash. He directed me all the way to the ATM, waited away from it for about 5min, eventually I asked (curious) what he wanted to charge to get into the city. He didnt answer and just ushered me towards his car, finally we got there and I refused to put my luggage in until he told me the price, he showed me a price list and I laughed at him! He wanted 80reals, I knew the bus was 6!! So I told him Continue Reading…

BERLIN!

I joined up with Shana and her crew from Sydney for the finals in Berlin! The 3rd place play off were essentially the grand final for the Germans. They absolutely crowded the FAN MILE on Straße des 17. Juni, and after the win partied well into the night. The final itself was a mixture of all the teams fans rejoining to party, and well as much as I hated Italy at the time, better they win than France hey ;)

We also did some sight seeing, including these Peace Bears, decorated by every country n the UN. (Australia’s pathetic entry was done by Ken Done and and looked like the work of a 2 year old with some fingerpaint).

And with that, The World cup is Finished! Here comes 2010!

DIVE DIVE DIVE

Bullshit.

We all know thats the only way to describe Australia’s exit from the World cup, as World Champs, of diving, drama, crying, and general pussies Italy, took a dive with 30″ to spare, giving Totti a free chance to take the game after 90″ came up with 0-0. Australia deserved so much better. If to lose, then to a team that deserved it by playing better and scoring within game play, not by diving. Thats it. No more on that topic.
