Ipoh, Malaysia
So basically Xue Nee was escorting her grandma back to Malaysia, and Duncan & I joined in for the the trip and a random weekend in Ipoh, north of Kuala Lumpur. We entertained ourselves on the bus ride up (which took about 8hrs) just by talking crap the whole time and Duncan taking “Captain’s log” videos.
Ipoh is a quiet, small town with not a lot going on, but there is good food. From the time we arrived we were constantly eating. And the rule, as we found out, is you can’t leave anything on the table, so it was up to Duncan & I to finish everything off haha. Even us, as much as we eat, were struggling at times, even dessert was pretty filling and dense. I was finally able to try mooncakes also as Xue Nee’s grandma is vegetarian and had veggie versions!
For something to do, we went to see Hotel Transylvania (which I star in btw) and the cinema was awesome! About $6, big comfy seats, huge screen and good sound. I want to see more movies here!
Next day we went to “the” tourist attraction of Ipoh (apart from food) and it was pretty cool! It was a temple inside a cave, which you could explore up to higher levels. The statues out front gave it a bit of a “Haw Par Villa” kinda feel. Further down, a tunnel opens up into an area surrounded by huge cliffs and there is a tortoise enclosure. Unfortunately its a bit bland & dreary, with lots of tortoises and not much to do, so they were fighting quite a lot. Who knew tortoises fight? (Of course their cousins do). We bought some kinda spinach leaves to feed them before heading off.
