I hate tablets. Pills. Vaccines. Drugs. They are expensive, have bad side effects, are full of crap I really don’t want in my body (both chemical and animal derived), almost certainly tested on animals, treat symptoms rather than the cause, and in many cases are simply ineffective! Siem Reap and the Temples of Angkor Plan »« Battambang, Cambodia’s 2nd largest town?
If you want to take a bus to Hanoi from Laos, you generally go from Vientiane. This means that if your in Luang Prabang, you have a 12hr ride from hell to Vientiane, followed by up to 20hrs to Hanoi. I’ve heard bad rumors about this route and leaving from Luang Prabang Continue Reading…
Enter Hanoi »« Kayaking in Laos
Next up from Luang Prabang is a Kayaking/rafting trip! There were very few actuall rapids, and they were tiny, but still fun. And one pair of guys capsized around 5 times! Being the odd one out in the group I was with one of the guides so no tipping for us!
You could take the big rubber red kayaks which are harder to paddle but harder to capsize also, or the solid yellow kayaks which are easier and faster but capsize quite easily! But again with the guide I had no worries so we were in the yellow one!
It was actually a pretty long day, and the river flow seemed against us most of the way. We stopped for lunch on the river bank and visited a small local village. Apparently they have a big party once a year and boys throw a ball to girls they like and if they catch the ball it means she agrees to get married?! And this happens all from the ripe old age of 12, and they have kids by the age of 15. Crazy.
Luang Prabang to Hanoi »« Kuang Si Falls
After another windy 6hr bus from Vang Vieng, I arrived in Luang Prabang late at night. We got a tuk tuk into town and found a guesthouse, ignoring the first one who wanted 300,000 Kip!! We paid 50,000 instead! I went out to the markets and found a dirt cheap mini Veggie Buffet, just 5,000 a plate. It was pretty bad actually but there were loads of people sitting down, including a guy from the bus, so we got talking and organised to head to Kuang Si falls the next morning. Sorted!
