The original Scrapbook I used for my 2006 around-the-world trip was basically built from scratch using flash and PHP. It served me well and wasn’t bad considering it was made by me, but it definitely wasn’t perfect.
I have now finally finished manually porting the pages over to this blog in all their glory. OK so its basically a way for me to relive the past, but if you want to be reminded of what you missed out on, you can see all my posts in the RTW category.
Tag links also now work, so you can click on the more specific tags at the bottom of each post for anything tagged with that link, opposed to categories on the right-hand side. Eg, clicking on GABBS will return all the posts where Gabby is mentioned or PHIL will bring up our time in Edinburgh and Greece for example
Some people also don’t notice the “Continue Reading..” links on post, (now made more obvious) if you click it or the post’s Title it will take you to the full post with the rest of the story, photos etc.

After a recent format to make some space, I decided to replace ageing software with Free / Open Source Solutions, so I have put together this list of some of the Best Free Software. This is a general list useful for most Windows users (XP targeted), and best installed directly after formatting or on a new PC!

£ No, not a rant about how ridiculous the price of EVERYTHING is here when you convert to AUD (thats X14 for those wondering). Just a little FYI on something thats been bugging me.
If you are using a US keyboard and trying to enter the Pound Symbol (£), you’ll notice you don’t have one.
If you have a full keyboard its easy to use the ALT+No. combos for ANY character (ALT+156 for pound), but most laptops don’t have
the required numeric keypad. I usually use the windows charmap, or copy paste from elsewhere but this is annoying!!
The easiest solution seems to be to switch your keyboard from “US” to “US International” (if you switch to UK you can use SHIFT+3 but too many other keys are different like @, ‘, etc). So to change it, do the following
START | SETTINGS | CONTROL PANEL | REGIONAL AND LANGUAGE OPTIONS
LANGUAGES TAB, Click DETAILS (window pops up)
Click ADD and select new keyboard of US INTERNATIONAL
Select US INTERNATIONAL as the default language, then Click the US layout and click REMOVE
Close the window and click OK saying it will remove it later as currently in use.
Next time you log in your layout will now be US INTERNATIONAL and your RIGHT-ALT key is now like AltGr (from euro keyboards) And allows you to enter all funky symbols. äåé®þþüúíóö«»áßðøø¶¶´çµñ欿¿¿¿¿¿ç«ö»¥×¡²¤¤€¼½¾¾¹££££££.. you get the idea…
(Note, you will have to ‘confirm’ the apostrophe key by pressing SPACE so it doesn’t insert something like the characters above. )
£ = RIGHT-ALT+SHIFT+4
On a mac its ALT+3 but who gives a shit.
Got a better way? Post it in the comments!
For those of you, ie my family, who aren’t as otaku as me or familiar with this style of blog:
This is gonna be my blog for 2007, opposed to the infamous Scrapbook of 2006. I’ll be adding pictures and stories etc for every bored person at work to check out.
New posts will automatically appear at the top of the page, and some longer ones will have a continue reading… link and pictures so click away! With a next page link at the very bottom of the page. And you can post comments by clicking on the Title of the Post.
No Guys, I dont want comments about Viagra, Xenex, stock market tips, or your brother in Nigeria. But keep sending on the porn as always.
You might be wondering what all this crap on the right hand side is?
。First up is a list of related Tags to posts (a post is an entry to the blog, you are reading one right now). So you can easily find all posts related to tokyo for example
。Archives: is the easiest way to check old posts, by month etc.
。Underneath the mate’s links are options to subsribe to this blog via email or RSS (should I attempt to explain RSS? just google it..)
。Then there is just a few nifty little things that are probably only useful to me, but it’s my site so I’ll do what I like. And I’ll add to this as time goes.
