We almost didn’t make it in to Hyper Japan! A Japanese festival with costumes, food, games, clothes etc, it was sold out! Luckily we found 2 people with spare tickets, and actually got them for cheaper than if we had bought online. Score! There was a cosplay competition based on Square Enix Game characters, with some pretty detailed costumes and crazy prop weapons, a kawaii competition, and a performance by Kanon Wakeshima.

Ai Wei Wei’s Zodiac sculptures at Somerset House. He was finally released recently after being held in China without reason and not allowed to communicate with anyone for two months!
Hyper Japan! »« Kew Gardens
Keiko, who I met last week at Finsbury Park, invited me to Kew Gardens which was on my list of places to see! My French house mate Claire also came, so in total it was 5 Japanese girls and 1 French Girl. It looked like and English school field trip, me being the teacher! haha. Kew Gardens are the huge Botanical Gardens in London, and they have various plants and flowers from around the world. They even have some Australian species, but it was a very small area – probably because they don’t get enough sun to survive here!
There’s a couple of conservatories with controlled temps and high humidity, with upper observation walkways. There’s also a treetop walkway which is quite high up and you can feel the structure swaying a little as you walk around, so people were quite cautious walking along it! It’s pretty cool, but there needs to be monkeys or at least some birds to look at, rather than just the tops of some rather normal looking trees!
I know nothing about plants, so don’t expect me to know what any of these photos are actually of. Except of course the infamous Venus Fly Trap! And Trumpet Pitchers, thanks to David Attenborough.
