Battambang

So we thought we would stop somewhere on our way to Siem Reap from Phnom Penh, but couldn’t really decide where. Sihanoukville was in the wrong direction and we’d heard mixed opinions, and some other places that sounded cool were just too hard to get to and also out of the way. We ended up picking Battambang, the other side of the lake to Siem Reap and perfectly on the way.

Battambang is apparently the second largest town in Cambodia (to Phnom Penh) but with a population of just under 200,000 its almost like a small country town. And there isn’t really anything in Battambang. We decided to get a motorbike and head to some sights out of town, but just as we were leaving the clouds were rolling in and the wind picked up. Damn. We weighed it up and thought best not to get stuck in the pouring rain, on muddy roads, in the middle of nowhere, so returned the bike. Of course after we got back the sky cleared up and there was no reain all afternoon!! Go figure.

We wandered around the markets as long as we possibly could, (look at all the fruit!!), found a temple and got chatting to some monks, and ate a couple times at White Rose; who have pretty average service but offer great vegetarian options and probably the best fruit shakes I’ve had since Thailand!

We ended up cutting our losses and headed to Siem Reap the next day, ohwell at least it broke up the journey haha
