Hue Citadel & Imperial City

Hanoi Backpackers were about to open up a new branch in Hue, so we went by to check if it was ready yet as the opening was mere days away. Unfortunately it still looked like a construction site but we were invited back for beers that night, and stayed at DMZ up the road instead, which is a nice, cheap, clean hotel.

It was a scorcher, but we wanted to make use of the afternoon so we walked to the Citadel which contains the Imperial City and Purple Forbidden City in a 6m high, 2m thick, 2K squared wall!

The Flag tower is also just outside the wall, and as we got there a guy was climbing the tower to untangle the giant flag!

After walking around for a while, we went back to hang with the guys from Hanoi Backpackers. They had cleared up some of the crap and showed us around the new hostel, including controversial double-bed bunks. The atmosphere is likely to be very chilled out, and as we sat on the balcony chatting and having a few drinks we could easily see why!
