U.P.P.Party

UPP had it’s yearly work/client party this week! They have staff only parties throughout the year, but this one shows off for the clients - meaning they go all out. We left for a couple hours to come back for the main party and went bowling at a pub nearby. (Bowling here is associated with drinking, and are actually inside pubs! Only small, 4 lanes or so, but many people using them).

But Im not sure why we left, considering there were girls on motorbikes manning the door (sorry no photos! Only took these 2 later on), in full motorbike gear, and cocktails being served inside, multiple bar areas, and a DJ. When we came back there was a police van in our street - I joked to myself about cops raiding the party.. There they were at the front door. Apparently they make frequent appearances at the parties. Not really hassling though just checking in and monitoring noise.

As usual, alcohol enhanced foreign language abilities (theirs, not mine) and I talked to lots of staff I hadn’t before. The party was pretty good, but at the end I think the bar staff got a bit happy with the mixing, and just started making rocket fuel! The last drink I had was terrible, and sent me home pretty fast. Woke up at 11am.. then 1am.. no work today.. Went in on Saturday and I wasn’t the only one. About 5 people showed up at 9 on Friday (ones who weren’t at the party?!) and most didn’t stay the full day haha.

Why oh why do they do it on a school night? :)

Random Prague 2

Taking Photos and drinking seem to be the only key things to do in Prague (for best results, photos before drink! ;)).

Pub etiquette here is more like that of a restaurant, you make your order and they bring it to your table, and you pay for everything at the end. This just wouldn’t work in Aus, as you have to remember what you personally drank and everyone pays their bit off the bill (or if your the last you pay for the tight asses who left without paying!). It also means you don’t know what your spending! But it seems to work.

Anyways some more random photos. Apparently OSRAM is some massive lighting company. Their buidling is huge and looks like it was hit with a rainbow or the paint job was done by Sony.

Snow is still a bit of a novelty for me, as I rarely get to see it, and have only been to the snow once. Its been randomly snowing on and off the last couple of weeks, so been taking photos when i see it! Here’s a little video too. These ones are all taken from my window!

Pub Trivia @ the Czech-Inn

Czech Inn

Czeched out pub trivia at the Czech Inn, which is a very nice looking hostel not far from where I’m staying, and close to the Namesti Miru Station. It actually looks like a hotel, and an English dude staying there said it was great. They have a bar downstairs (as all good hostels do) and ran a trivia night on Monday (in English of course!).
I’m fairly useless at trivia unless its related to the Simpsons, and these categories were definitely not my realm. Try Olympic Cities, Shakespeare, and Beatles Lyrics.
Surprisingly I got 2 of the Shakespeare Qs. Want to know how? Leonardo DiCaprio played Romeo Montageu (Q: whats Romeo’s family name?) in Baz Luhrmanns Romeo + Juliet, and Desdemona (Q: who is Othello’s wife?) was the name of the female character in the Gargoyles Cartoon back in the 90s.

See? TV has taught me more about Shakespeare than Year 12 English did. Ha! :)

I won’t mention the final scores…

Met up with Stephanie the other night and went to a Vegetarian restaurant with various Spanish inspired dishes! And finally Sunday a chance to actually see some of Prague! Steph played tour guide (much more informative than I am in playing guide) and we walked pretty much through the whole of the city! New town, old town, the castle quarter etc. Anyways just check out the photos :)

I’ve come to Prague for a month or more and am working at UPP. To get home, I have to take a whole 15 steps in the freezing weather. Seriously. 15. Here’s a couple of quick photos of my bachelor pad apartment, all for li’le ol’ me!

Just a random post. This is basically everything I own. Unfortunately Its a lot heavier than my backpacking days, so much I’m even leaving a few things behind. You can see my quality electrical installation I’ve been using, and if you really wanted to know, vacuum bags do kinda work, but note that when you ask in shops for a “vacuum bag” people will think you want it for a vacuum cleaner…that took me a few goes to realize…

Anyways, everything is packed up cause Im goin to Prague for at least a month.
